What Are Microneedling?
Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, uses a device with very fine sterile needles to create thousands of tiny channels in the skin. These are controlled micro-injuries, and they are deliberate. Your skin responds to them the way it responds to any wound: by producing new collagen and elastin to repair itself.
The difference is that the injuries are microscopic and spread evenly, so instead of forming scar tissue, your skin remodels and thickens. Over a course of treatments, that shows up as smoother texture, smaller-looking pores, softer fine lines and improvement in scarring.
This is not an instant treatment. It works with your own biology, and biology takes time. Collagen remodelling continues for up to six months after a course finishes, which means your result keeps improving long after your last appointment.
It is also one of the few treatments that genuinely changes the skin itself rather than sitting on top of it or underneath it. Injectables reposition and relax. Microneedling rebuilds.
Your skin does the work. We just give it a reason to start.

What It Treats
Acne Scarring
This is where microneedling earns its reputation. Rolling and boxcar scars respond particularly well because the treatment breaks down the fibrous tissue tethering the scar down while building new collagen underneath to lift it. Ice-pick scars are more stubborn and improve less. A course of three to six sessions is realistic for meaningful change.
Texture and Pores
Rough, bumpy or congested-feeling skin smooths out as the surface remodels. Pores do not actually shrink, but thicker, better-supported skin around them makes them far less noticeable.
Fine Lines
Particularly around the eyes, mouth and on the cheeks, where lines come from thinning skin rather than muscle movement. For lines caused by expression, anti-wrinkle injections are the better tool, and we will tell you which is which.
Dullness and Tone
Increased cell turnover and improved blood flow give skin a brighter, more even look. Many clients notice this first, well before the structural changes appear.
Stretch Marks and Scars
Older, pale stretch marks and some surgical scars can be softened, though results here are more variable and need a longer course.
Tear Troughs and Temples
Hollowing under the eyes and at the temples. These are more advanced areas and suitability is assessed carefully — not everyone with under-eye shadowing is a candidate, and we will tell you honestly if you are not.
What Happens at Your Appointment
Your consultation is free and comes first. We assess your skin type, look at what you are already using at home, and talk about what is realistic. If you are on certain acne medications, have active breakouts in the area, or have a history of keloid scarring, microneedling may not be suitable, and we will tell you at this stage.
On treatment day, your skin is cleansed and numbing cream is applied for around twenty to thirty minutes. The treatment itself takes twenty to thirty minutes depending on the area.
Most people describe it as a prickling or vibrating sensation rather than pain. It is more noticeable over bony areas like the forehead and jawline, and much less so on the cheeks. A serum is applied during or immediately after the treatment, while the channels are open and absorption is at its highest.
Your skin will be pink and warm afterwards, similar to mild sunburn. Most of that settles within 24 to 48 hours.
What To Expect
Most people need a course rather than a single session. As a general guide:
- General skin quality and texture: three sessions, four weeks apart
- Acne scarring: four to six sessions, four to six weeks apart
- Maintenance afterwards: one session every six to twelve months
You will see a glow within a week of your first treatment. The structural improvements — scarring, texture, firmness — build gradually from around week four and continue developing for up to six months after your final session.
Honest expectations
microneedling improves scarring, it does not erase it. A realistic target for a full course is a noticeable, worthwhile improvement rather than perfectly smooth skin. Anyone promising you more than that is overselling. Deep ice-pick scars in particular may need a different approach, and we would say so rather than sell you a course that will disappoint you.

Nothing on the skin except what we give you

No make-up

Gentle cleanser and a simple moisturiser only

No retinol, vitamin C, acids or exfoliants

Daily SPF 50, without exception

Expect some dryness and light flaking around days three to five
Your skin is more vulnerable to sun damage after microneedling, and sun exposure in the first fortnight can cause pigmentation. Sunscreen is not optional here.

Common Questions
Answers to the questions clients ask most often before treatment.
Does it hurt?
With numbing cream, most people find it very manageable. It feels like prickling or sandpaper rather than sharp pain, and it is over in half an hour.
How much downtime is there?
Redness for 24 to 48 hours, like mild sunburn. Some people get light flaking around day three. You can wear make-up from the second day. If you have an event, leave at least a week.
How is this different from a chemical peel?
A chemical peel works on the surface layers, resurfacing and brightening. Microneedling works deeper, stimulating collagen in the dermis. Peels are better for pigmentation and dullness; microneedling is better for scarring and texture. Many clients benefit from both at different points, and we will map that out for you.
Can I do this at home with a dermaroller?
Home rollers do not reach a useful depth and are a genuine infection risk if not sterilised properly. They can also drag the skin and cause scarring. We would not recommend it.
Will it make my acne worse?
We do not treat over active, inflamed acne. Once breakouts are under control, microneedling is one of the best options for the scarring left behind.
Can I have it if I have darker skin?
Yes. Microneedling is generally considered safer for deeper skin tones than many laser treatments, because it does not target pigment. We will still take a careful history and may recommend priming the skin beforehand.
How soon can I have another session?
Four weeks minimum. Your skin needs that time to complete the remodelling process. Going sooner does not speed up your result.
Will it help with large pores permanently?
Pores do not close, but they look considerably smaller when the surrounding skin is thicker and better supported. Maintenance sessions keep that going.
You Might Also Consider
Chemical Peels
Works on the surface layers for pigmentation, dullness and congestion. Often combined with microneedling across a treatment plan.
Anti-Wrinkle Injections
For lines caused by expression, which microneedling will not change.
Dermal Fillers
For volume loss. Microneedling improves skin quality; fillers restore structure beneath it.
