What Are Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel uses a solution applied to the skin to loosen the bonds holding dead surface cells together. Those cells lift away, and the skin underneath — newer, more even, better hydrated — is revealed. The process also signals the skin to speed up its own renewal cycle.

Skin naturally sheds and replaces itself roughly every 28 days when you are young. By your forties that cycle has slowed considerably, which is part of why skin starts to look dull, congested and uneven. A peel gives that process a push.

“Peel” sounds dramatic and often is not. Many of the peels we use cause little more than slight dryness. Others are deliberately stronger. The right choice depends on your skin, your concern, and how much downtime you can accommodate — not on which option sounds most impressive.

This is also the most accessible treatment we offer. At £50, it is often the right starting point for someone who wants to improve their skin but is not ready for injectables.

The strongest peel isn't the best peel. The right one for your skin is.

OUR TREATMENTS

What Chemical Peels Treat

Pigmentation and Sun Damage

Brown patches, age spots and the uneven tone that builds up from years of sun exposure. Peels work well here, though pigmentation almost always needs a course plus committed sun protection. Without daily SPF, it comes straight back.

Dull, Tired Skin

Probably the most immediately satisfying result. Removing the build-up of dead cells makes skin reflect light properly again. Many clients book a peel ten days before a wedding or event for exactly this.

Congestion and Breakouts

Salicylic-based peels are oil-soluble, which means they get into the pore itself to clear congestion. Useful for blackheads, bumpy texture and skin that breaks out regularly.

Fine Lines

Surface-level lines soften as the skin resurfaces and thickens slightly. Deeper lines and expression lines will not change — those need anti-wrinkle injections or microneedling.

Post-Acne Marks

The flat red or brown marks left behind after a spot heals respond well. Indented scarring is a different problem and needs microneedling.

Rough Texture

Skin that feels gritty or uneven rather than smooth usually improves noticeably after two or three sessions.

Your Appointment

What Happens at Your Appointment

The consultation matters more here than people expect, because skin type determines which peel is safe. Deeper skin tones carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation if treated with the wrong agent or strength, and that risk is managed by choosing correctly rather than by avoiding treatment.

We will ask about your skin history, any medication you take, recent sun exposure, and what you use at home. Some products need pausing beforehand. If you have been on isotretinoin recently, or have an active cold sore or skin infection, we will postpone.

On the day, your skin is cleansed and prepped. The solution is applied and left on for a set time, usually between three and ten minutes depending on the peel. You will feel tingling, warmth or mild stinging — this is normal and we monitor you throughout. A fan helps.

The solution is then neutralised or removed, and a calming moisturiser and SPF applied. The whole appointment takes around thirty to forty-five minutes.

Results and Aftercare

What To Expect Afterwards

This depends entirely on the strength of the peel used.

Light peels: skin looks slightly pink for a few hours. Mild dryness or very light flaking around days two to four. Most people go straight back to normal life.

Medium peels: more noticeable redness for a day or two, with visible peeling from around day three to day six. Plan for this if you have something on.

Honest expectations

Peeling is not a measure of success. Some peels work largely without visible shedding, and judging the result by how much skin comes off is a common misunderstanding.

Most concerns need a course of four to six peels spaced two to four weeks apart, followed by maintenance every few months. One peel will brighten your skin. It will not resolve long-standing pigmentation.

Aftercare

First 48 hours:

Gentle cleanser and simple moisturiser only

No retinol, vitamin C, acids or scrubs

No gym, saunas or swimming pools

No make-up for the first 24 hours where possible

For two weeks:

SPF 50 every day, reapplied

Do not pick or pull at peeling skin, however tempting

Avoid sunbeds entirely

No waxing or other facial treatments

The single most important thing is sun protection. Freshly resurfaced skin has very little defence, and sun exposure at this stage can cause the exact pigmentation you came in to treat.

Common Questions

Answers to the questions clients ask most often before treatment.

Will my face actually peel off?

Not in the way the name suggests. Lighter peels often cause nothing more than slight dryness. Medium peels cause visible flaking for a few days, similar to after sunburn.

You will feel tingling, warmth or stinging while the solution is on, which lasts a few minutes. It is uncomfortable rather than painful, and it stops as soon as the peel is removed.

For a light peel, seven to ten days. For anything stronger, two to three weeks. Never book a peel in the same week as a wedding or event, and never try a new peel for the first time close to one.

Often yes, with a gentle peel and careful selection. Some conditions rule it out. This is assessed at consultation and we will be straightforward with you.

Peels resurface the top layers. Microneedling works deeper to build collagen. Peels suit pigmentation, dullness and congestion; microneedling suits scarring and texture. They complement each other well across a longer plan.

Yes, but sun protection becomes even more important and we may choose a gentler option. Many people prefer autumn and winter for stronger peels.

Usually four to six for a specific concern, then maintenance. You will see something after one, but lasting change takes a course.

Not straight away. Actives like retinol and acids need pausing for around a week. We will give you written aftercare with exact timings.
